PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a powder mixture for powder metallurgy which is used for a raw material for a green compact molding, is excellent in fluidity and is therefore high in productivity of compacting, wherein the green compact molding obtained by using the powder mixture as the raw material has adequate density and strength and excellent machinability, is therefore machinable even before a sintering process and enables the life of a cutting tool to be prolonged. SOLUTION: The powder mixture for powder metallurgy contains an iron powder and/or iron alloy powder, a mechanical characteristic-enhancing component and a specific kind of thermoplastic resin powder, wherein the average grain size of the thermoplastic resin powder is≤100μm and the compounding amount of the thermoplastic resin powder to the iron powder and/or the iron alloy powder is 0.05 to 1.0mass%.
