There is provided a technique for detecting when a document is modified and automatically updating the screen. A document processing device (100) functions as a browser for reading a document held in a web server (25). An update detection unit (72) detects update of a document on the web server (25). A modification report generation unit (74) reports modification of a node detected by an update detection unit (72). The modification report generation unit (74) reports the modified node to a DOM unit and makes the DOM unit issue a mutation event to the listener registered in the node. When a processing system in change of the tag set to which the node belongs receives the mutation event, it re-layouts the area containing the modified node and updates the screen.
