<p>Disclosed is a black compound with excellent solubility which has good stora ge stability as a recording liquid. When this black compound is used in inkjet recording or writing tools, the recorded matter is excellent in fastness suc h as light resistance, ozone gas resistance and moisture resistance. Also disclosed is an ink composition containing such a black compound. Specifical ly disclosed are an azo compound represented by the formula (1) below or a salt thereof, and an ink composition containing the same.
