A crash restraint cushion which may be secured to a seat or dash in a vehicle comprises a container 34 for compressed gas mounted in the inflatable bag 32, a diffuser 52 with apertures 53 therethrough, a porous pad 56 and a panel 22 retaining the cushion in position by frangible tapes 26, 27. The container 34 is ruptured by an explosive 42 ignited electrically. A resilient cushion 51 between the bag 32 and its mounting recess 38 provides some restraint for impact forces below that necessary to fire the explosive.</p> |
