The method involves applying a brake of a vehicle when a collision of the vehicle is identified. The collision is identified when airbag is ignited, as detected by a sensor and when deceleration of the vehicle, as detected by an acceleration sensor, exceeds a threshold value. The vehicle is maintained in a standstill after the brake is applied till the ignition of the vehicle is switched-off. An independent claim is also included for a device for executing a method for controlling a vehicle.
