NOTCH-1 ASSAY TO DETECT NEURODEGENERATIVE DISEASES

An assay is disclosed whereby Notch-1 levels in a sample are determined and increases in Notch-1 levels beyond normal levels are associated with an increased probability of a neurodegenerative disease being present. The Notch-1 intracellular domain (NICD) may be detected with an antibody specific for NICD. Using a labeled antibody allows visualization of the amount and distribution pattern of NICD which when compared to a normal control to indicate a neurodegenerative disease including CJD present.
