A sound recognition system includes a harmonic detector to determine whether a sound signal is a harmonic signal, a feature extractor for finding a feature vector of the sound signal, a first database for storing a plurality of feature vectors of harmonic signals, a second database for storing a plurality of feature vectors of non-harmonic signals, and a classifier. The classifier selects a corresponding one of the databases according to a determination result from the harmonic detector, receives a feature vector determined by the feature extractor, and determines the type of the sound signal based on the feature vectors stored in the selected database.
