<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a membrane electrode assembly for a polymer electrolyte fuel cell which includes anode catalyst layer highly coated with ion-exchange resin and exhibits high power generation property. <P>SOLUTION: The membrane electrode assembly comprises an anode and a cathode and an ion-exchange membrane placed between the anode and the cathode. The anode comprises a catalyst layer including a platinum catalyst carried on a carbon carrier with specific surface area from 600 to 1,000 m<SP>2</SP>/g determined by the BET method and the ion-exchange resin, the specific surface area of the catalyst determined by the BET method is from 300 to 400 m<SP>2</SP>/g, and powder of the catalyst layer has specific surface area from 30 to 110 m<SP>2</SP>/g, determined by the BET method. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
