<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a transflective homeotropic alignment liquid crystal element which is improved in response speed and alignment stability while suppressing the lowering of contrast, and to provide a liquid crystal display device equipped with the transflective homeotropic alignment liquid crystal element. <P>SOLUTION: In the transflective liquid crystal element 1, a color filter substrate 2 composed of a transparent substrate 5, a coloring layer 6 formed on the transparent substrate 5, and a transparent electrode layer 7 laminated on the coloring layer 6 in a solid shape and a counter substrate 3 composed of a TFT substrate 8 and a transmissive electrode 9 and a reflective electrode 11 laminated on the TFT substrate 8 are arranged oppositely to each other, and a liquid crystal layer 4 is sealed into the gap between them.
