PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To relieve stress concentration on the bearing surface of an oil-retaining sintered bearing by avoiding a local slidable movement between the oil-retaining sintered bearing and a shaft. SOLUTION: In this oil-retaining sintered bearing 1 having, on its inner periphery, the bearing surface 1a in slidable contact with the outer peripheral surface 22a of the shaft 22, crowning parts 1c are formed at the axial both end parts of the bearing surface 1a, each crowning part 1c is formed in such a shape that meets the requirements of 1.75×10<SP>-3</SP>≤γ/b1≤5.2×10<SP>-2</SP>, 1.75×10<SP>-3</SP>≤γ/b2≤5.2×10<SP>-2</SP>, and 0.2≤(b1+b2)/a≤0.8 where γ is the maximum value of a radial drop amount at the crowning part 1c of γ, b1 is the axial length of the crowning part 1c at the axial one end, b2 is the axial length of the crowning part 1c on the axial other end, and a is the axial overall length of the oil-retaining sintered bearing.
