PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus capable of starting recording quickly. SOLUTION: In a joining shooting for newly recording, image data on a tape recording medium the apparatus regenerate image data in error correcting units just before the present tape position, detect a specified screen concerning with a coding process among the M image data of the error correcting units, and switch over the joining shooting in edition point units and the joining shooting in the error correction units according to the detection result.
