PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To switch the number of segments at high speed in accordance with the amount of continuous data transfer of an external device, as regards a medium storage device for switching the number of segments of a cache memory in accordance with the amount of transfer from the external device. SOLUTION: The medium storage device (1) receives continuity information on write data from the external device (2) and the amount of data transfer per command to recognize that the write data continue and changes the number of segments of the cache memory (18) in accordance with the amount of data transfer. Thus, the number of segments appropriate to write processing of the write data of the transfer amount can immediately be changed and write processing is performed at high speed.
