Hydrocarbon chlorides contaminated with a metal or metals and which are to be subjected to heat are stabilized against decomposition on such heating by the addition of at least one mole of a liquid organic phosphate per mole of metal present. The heating may occur, e.g. during distillation and the metal impurities, especially iron, may arise from contact of the hydrocarbon chlorides with the metal during production of the hydrocarbon chlorides. |
