PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a central processing unit to facilitate a test and debugging of a program. SOLUTION: The central processing unit includes a data communication part for performing data communications with a host computer, a status register having a flag to represent whether an action mode of the central processing unit is a normal action mode indicating a normal action state or a debugging mode indicating a debugging state, a debugging stack pointer register for specifying a debugging stack area on the memory, and a comparison part for making the central processing unit enter the debugging mode if a value stored in a break register coincides with break data. When the value stored in the break register coincides with the break data, the central processing unit is switched to the debugging mode wherein the flag has a value indicating the debugging mode, and debugging is performed using the debugging stack pointer register as a stack pointer designating a memory to store data of a debugging program.
