PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To release a pressure member and a fixing roller from a pressing state of specified pressure by necessary minimum of movement of the pressure member. SOLUTION: The fixing device is provided with a pressure release means which releases a pre-nip member 64a, that presses against the fixing roll 61 with the specified pressure, from the pressing state of the specified pressure from inside an endless belt 62 capable of moving in contact with the fixing roll 61; and while the pressure release mechanism releases the pre-nip member 64a from the pressing state of the specified pressure, the movement of the pre-nip member 64a toward the fixing roll 61 is limited to within a specified range.
