The invention comprises fluoroalkylene silanes of the formula where R # is a perfluoroalkylene radical, X is CONH 2 , CN or COOR<SP>1</SP>, in which R<SP>1</SP> is C 1-6 alkyl, Y is a hydrolysable group or OH, R<SP>11</SP> is a monovalent hydrocarbon radical free from aliphatic unsaturation or an ACH 2 CH 2 group, where A is perfluoroalkyl, and m and n are 0 to 2, and also comprises siloxanes of the formula where X<SP>1</SP> can be COOH as well as any of the values of X above and b is 0 to 2, and copolymers thereof. The silanes may be prepared by reacting R<SP>11</SP> m Y 3-m SiH with CH 2 = CH(CH 2 - CH 2 ) n R # X in the presence of a platinum catalyst. To obtain Y=OH, the corresponding hydrolysable silane, preferably where Y is methoxy, is hydrolysed. The siloxanes may be prepared by hydrolysis of the silanes or by addition of SiH-containing siloxanes to the above unsaturated compounds. The group Y may be halogen, hydrocarbonoxy, acyloxy, ketoxime, amine, sulphide, nitrile, isocyanate, sulphate, sulphonate, carbamate and groups such as -ON(CH 3 ) 2 . Uses.-Coatings, lubricants, elastomers, laminating resins and surface-active agents.
