RETROCYCLINS: ANTIVIRAL AND ANTIMICROBIAL PEPTIDES

Compositions comprising a retrocyclin peptide are provided. The retrocyclin peptide, or a cocktail of retrocyclin peptides, may be formulated with a pharmaceutically acceptable excipient. A retrocyclin of particular interest is a peptide of two linked nonapetides, where one of the nonapeptides is chosen from the sequences of SEQ ID NO:19-64 and 74-119 as set forth in Table 1; and the second nonapeptide is chosen from the sequences of SEQ ID NO:93 - 119. The peptide may be linear or cyclic. Retrocyclins comprising lysine residues or analogs thereof are of interest. Such retrocyclins include, without limitation, those having an amino acid sequence chosen from SEQ ID NO:126-133, where the indicated lysine residue includes lysine analogs.
