The invention relates to a gearbox (3) for a rail vehicle, especially a low-platform vehicle, comprising at least one axle shaft provided with a wheel (18) fixed thereto. Said gearbox (3) comprises a gearbox housing (4) provided with an input element (5), an output element for driving the axle shaft, and other gearbox parts for transmitting the driving power of a drive motor (7) from the input element (5) to the wheel (18). According to the invention, the gearbox housing (4) is embodied both as a carrier for the rail vehicle and as a carrier for an axle shaft bearing. The invention also relates to a rail vehicle provided with one such gearbox (3).
