Zinc has a lower melting point than steel resulting in the formation of small cavities along the faulty welding seams. Corrosion and a weak connection will occur at a later stage. The new method for improving a welding seam on a zinc-coated metal sheet or an aluminum sheet uses the pre-processing with an atmospheric electrically neutral low temperature plasma beam directed on the area to be welded. The plasma is ignited electrically. Air can be used for the creation of the plasma.
