PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recording and reproducing apparatus capable of properly recording contents data. SOLUTION: When recognizing that a current time is a video recording start date and time in reservation information, a CPU 290 of the recording and reproducing apparatus 200 acquires the reservation information. When recognizing that there exists other reservation information whose video recording time zone is in duplicate with the reservation information above, the CPU 290 acquires the duplicate reservation information. The CPU 290 selects a reservation program corresponding to either of duplicated video recording reservations as a selected video recording program and selects the other for a candidate video recording program. When recognizing that a user views e.g., the candidate video recording program on the basis of station selection channel information from an output apparatus 300, the CPU 290 executes video recording processing of the selected video recording program.
