PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain high-precision texture information by more accurately reading specular reflection light from a document. SOLUTION: An image reading apparatus 100 comprises an isolation mechanism 13. In the isolation mechanism 13, an intake fan 132 intakes air from pores of an adsorption plate 131 so that a document P is adsorbed onto the adsorption plate 131 and a pull-up mechanism 135 then pulls up the adsorption plate 131 with the document P adsorbed thereon. If the document P is scanned by a full-rate carriage 14 in such a state, specular reflection light from platen glass 11 and specular reflection light from the document P can be separated.
