PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for certifying a product by detecting an informational nucleic acid from the product containing the nucleic acid enabling the source and history of the product to be individually and definitely specified. SOLUTION: The method for product certification comprises the following procedure: An informational nucleic acid having a site with an arbitrary and known base sequence is extracted from a product such as a coating material, resin, fat-and-oil, fiber, leather, wood, printed matter, paper or adhesive, or a combination thereof, and then amplified by PCR (polymer chain reaction) technique, thereafter, the base sequence of the informational nucleic acid thus amplified is determined.
