METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR ENCODING AND DECODING MULTI-VIEW VIDEO IMAGES USING IMAGE STITCHING

The present invention provides a method and an apparatus for encoding and decoding multi-view video images. The encoding method includes: to decompose each view video image of the multi-view video to overlapping area and non overlapping area, the overlapping area is overlapped with the other view images, and the non overlapping area is not overlapped with the other view image; to combine the non overlapping area of each view image and the middle view image so as to form stitching image; to encode the stitching image using a first encoding algorithm; to encode the overlapping area of each view image using a second encoding algorithm. In addition, the decomposing process includes the following steps: to estimate the difference information of each view image based on prescribed view image; to decompose each view image to the overlapping area and the non overlapping area using the difference information.
