PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surface treatment apparatus and a surface treatment method capable of preventing adhesion of a magnetic tape to a magnetic head and occurrence of a damaged magnetic tape and to provide the magnetic tape processed by the surface treatment method.

SOLUTION: The surface treatment apparatus includes: a magnetic head provided so as to be in slide contact with a carried magnetic tape and capable of detecting a BOT part and an EOT part of the magnetic tape; a carrying speed detection section for detecting a carrying speed of the magnetic tape; and a tape surface treatment section provided in the carrying direction of the magnetic tape near the magnetic head, and the tape surface treatment section emits a laser beam to at least one of the BOT part and the EOT part of the magnetic tape on the basis of the carrying speed detected by the carrying speed detection section to form a plurality of minute recesses.
