PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a beam source capable of generating a heterodyne beam having a desired frequency difference and a power level suitable to a multiaxial interferometer. SOLUTION: An amplified output beam is obtained by feeding an input light beam into a laser diode 481 operating by power smaller than required one for laser stimulated radiation. A dynamic steering system 451 can focus the input beam to the front end surface of the diode 481. The steering system 451 arbitrarily includes an optical element 453 mounted on a piezoelectric actuator 454. A control signal for the actuator 454 in the steering system controls a basic position and causes the alternate movement of the element 453. The measurement of the optical power leaking from the rear-end surface of the laser diode can determine the power of the amplified beam emitted from the front-end surface. A derived function of the measured power related to the alternate movement indicates the necessary adjustment of the basic position. COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI
