PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a display device for projectors and others, in which uniformity of an illuminating area can be ensured with a simple lens configuration. SOLUTION: The shapes and the sizes of a light source device 20 and liquid crystal panel 61 are set as required. Using an illuminating optical system 40 of a critical type, an image on a light emitting section 31 is projected onto a liquid crystal panel 61 so as to cover its effective area. Thereby, the effective area of the liquid crystal panel 61 can be uniformly illuminated. Accordingly, modulation light, namely image light, in which nonuniform luminance and nonuniform color are lessened, is emitted from the liquid crystal panel 61. COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI
