PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polarizing film which is adaptable to more increase of light quantity and is more improved in resistance to light. SOLUTION: This dyestuff for the polarizing film contains the compound shown by formula (I) (wherein B is a substituent selected from formulae (II)-(IV) (wherein A is a naphthyl group having 1-3 sulfonyl groups or a phenyl group having 1-2 water-soluble groups selected from sulfonyl groups and carboxyl groups and the phenyl group may further have an alkyl or alkoxyl group; Y is -NHCO- or -N=N-; R2-R7are each a hydrogen atom or a lower alkyl or lower alkoxyl group independently; R8is a hydrogen atom or a sulfonyl group; m and n are the same or different from each other and are each 0 or 1); R1is a hydrogen atom or a hydroxyl, lower alkyl, lower alkoxyl or lower alkylcarbonyloxy group) or its salt as an effective component.
