PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prolong the lifetime of a paper feed roller, and to prolong the maintenance time of a paper feeder. SOLUTION: In the paper feeder 9, a face side and a back side of a sheet is held by a paper feed roller 25 and a separation roller 26, and the sheet is fed by the friction force by rotating the paper feed roller 25. Thus, the nip pressure between the paper feed roller 25 and the separation roller 26 is adjusted by the magnetic force of a magnet by an electromagnet 37 provided inside the paper feed roller 25 and a magnetic material 38 provided inside the separation roller 26.
