PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optimum autofocusing performance to an imaging apparatus using an imaging device having a plurality of photodiodes in a depth direction per one pixel. SOLUTION: In the imaging apparatus, which is provided with the imaging device having the plurality of photodiodes in the depth direction per one pixel and a focusing system performing focusing by detecting the sharpness of an image plane according to the video signal of the subject image of the imaging device and controlling a focus position so that the sharpness may be maximum, the output value of the middle photodiode out of the plurality of photodiodes existing in the depth direction is evaluated in order to detect the sharpness in a sharpness detection area.
