PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a universal joint enabling the suppression of rattling and smoothly operated and a method of manufacturing the universal joint. SOLUTION: In this universal joint 4, the trunnion 29A of a cross shaft 22 is supported by a bottomed cylindrical outer ring cup 31 fitted into the fitting hole 27A of a yoke 20 through a needle-like rollers 32. The trunnion 29A comprises a small diameter part 36 formed at its tip part 34 and a large diameter part 37 formed on the base end 35 side of the small diameter part 36. A bush 33 receiving the needle-like rollers 32 is press-fitted into the small diameter part 36. The outer diameter D1 of the bush 33 is made larger than the outer diameter D2 of the large diameter part 37 of the trunnion 29A. Accordingly, since the play of the needle-like rollers 32 can be reduced, the occurrence of rattling can be suppressed. Smooth operation can be secured by utilizing the rolling of the needle-like rollers 32. The needle-like rollers 32 can be prevented from being damaged in assembly by press-fitting the bush 33 inserted into the needle-like rollers 32 into the small diameter part 36.
