PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a brake shim having improved noise suppressing function without the need for forming a lubricating film after machined into a shim shape. SOLUTION: The brake shim A uses a pre-coated stainless steel plate as a raw material, whose surface layer is covered with a fluorocarbon resin thin film 11 and on which a heat resistant resin coating 10 is provided with a granular fluorocarbon resin 13 dispersed therein. It has noise suppressing function equal to that of a fluorocarbon rubber coated shim plate and improved heat resistance and wear resistance. The inexpensive brake shim which has further improved wear resistance and superior durability is obtained by dispersing scale inorganic aggregates 12 and inorganic fibers 17 into the heat resistant resin coating 10.
