PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a double bowl piston, capable of reinforcing an eddy and air/fuel mixture while achieving retarded fuel injection close to an upper dead center. SOLUTION: This piston 40 comprises a piston crown 57 provided with a surface having an annular inner edge. The piston also comprises a first piston bowl 44 recessed in a surface of the piston crown. The first piston bowl 44 has a bottom surface and an outer wall. A line extended from the annular inner edge of the surface to be tangent to the outer wall forms an interior angleθthat is larger than 90deg., with the surface of the piston 40.
