PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polymerization inhibitor for storing chloroprene monomer having excellent inhibitory effects on polymerization of the monomer without discoloring during storing of the monomer, without varying polymerization rate when carrying out emulsion polymerization using the monomer and without evaporating the inhibitor in a drying step of chloroprene rubber. SOLUTION: The polymerization inhibitor for storing the chloroprene monomer is composed of a hindered phenol having≤1.0% heating loss at 170°C for 60 min and has≤0.1 absorbance of a monomer liquid obtained by adding the polymerization inhibitor to the chloroprene monomer and measured at 400 nm measuring wavelength with a spectrophotometer after 30 days. The method for storing the chloroprene monomer comprises using the polymerization inhibitor.
