PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a prophylactic or a therapeutic agent for liver diseases, especially diseases by fatty liver, hepatic fibrogenesis or cirrhosis or hepatic carcinoma. SOLUTION: The prophylactic or therapeutic agent for the liver diseases comprises an osteoactivin-like protein or a gene composed of a DNA encoding a fragment of the protein having an activity for suppressing the liver diseases as an active ingredient.
