PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for purifying propylene oxide remarkably advantageous from the view point of industrial application, having excellent characteristics such as reducing loss of the propylene oxide by washing, and effectively eliminating methyl formate. SOLUTION: The invention relates to the method for purification of propylene oxide comprising elimination of methyl formate contained in propylene oxide by washing with water, wherein the pH of the water layer after washing is set at 7-9 and then brought into contact with an extraction solvent. The extraction solvent is a hydrocarbon having≤5000 ppm by weight of saturated moisture at 20°C and the hydrocarbon has 3-10C atoms such as propylene, butane, pentane, hexane, heptane, octane or the like, or an aromatic hydrocarbon such as ethylbenzene, cumene, toluene, xylene, benzene or the like.
