PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To more easily and speedily read texture information. SOLUTION: A full-rate carrier 13 of an image reading apparatus is equipped with a light source 131, mirrors 132, 133, and 134, and a turning reflector 135. First reflected light (L<SB>dr</SB>) is reflected by the mirror 132 and reflected by a mirror 135m of the turning reflector 135 to be received. At this point, second reflected light (L<SB>sr</SB>) is absorbed by a light trap 135t of the turning reflector 135. Then when the turning reflector 135 moves to a position indicated by 135', the first reflected light (L<SB>dr</SB>) is absorbed by the light trap 135t and the second reflected light (L<SB>sr</SB>) is received.
