PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the number of sheets of image formation per unit time without bending the edge of a cleaning blade and without degrading image quality. SOLUTION: The cleaning blade is made to abut on an intermediate transfer member 51 in such a manner that the edge of the cleaning blade 51 intersects orthogonal to the advancing direction of the intermediate transfer member 51 and when the cleaning blade is separated from the intermediate transfer member 51 it is separated so as to have a time lag from one end side of the cleaning blade toward the other end side with respect to the direction where the cleaning blade 51 intersects orthogonal to the advancing direction of the intermediate transfer member 51, and thereby the separation stripes T of the toner formed on the intermediate transfer member by the separation of the cleaning blade are inclined with respect to the direction orthogonal to the advancing direction F of the intermediate transfer member.
