In a seal (3) for sealing the edge of an air-permeable, endless moving belt (2), of a fibrous sheet producing and/or finishing machine, against a fixed, spaced suction element (5) forming a suction zone (8) over the belt (which guides the sheet (1) on the opposite side), the path of the side of the seal facing the belt is variable. An independent claim is included for the use of the seal in the drying region as above, where the belt (2) is in the form of a drying sieve.
