A sonotrode (12) is provided for laying a wire (4) on a substrate (6). An ultrasonic transducer (10) applies ultrasound waves to the sonotrode. The wire is fed axially with respect to the laying device. A guide channel (14) is provided coaxially in the laying device for guiding the wire. The wire is preferably guided in the channel by means of air suspension (48).
