<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To highly accurately correct displacement between images, in an image forming apparatus for forming images on continuous paper. <P>SOLUTION: A reference color pattern image formed by the upstream printing section 12Y is detected by detecting parts adjacent to each other upstream in the direction of the conveyance of each image carrier. Based upon the result of the detection, the apparatus sets the position where the formation of electrostatic latent images for a document image and a pattern image is started on each of the image carriers adjacent to each other downstream of the corresponding detecting parts. The set position where the formation of the latent image is started is corrected based upon an amount of displacement of the pattern image calculated when the previous pattern image is formed on the continuous paper. Accordingly, that makes it possible to correct displacement caused by a change in the speed of the conveyance of the continuous paper, and also displacement caused by a change in the rotating speed of each image carrier relative to the speed of the conveyance of the continuous paper. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
