POLARIZER, OPTICAL FILM AND IMAGE DISPLAY DEVICE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polarizer that has no problems in appearance defects due to cracks or the like, even under severe use environment and having high transmittance and high degree of polarization.

SOLUTION: The polarizer comprises polarizing fiber (1), formed of a transparent resin and which contains at least one kind of dichroic material in a state of being oriented in the longitudinal direction and birefringent fiber (2) which is formed of a transparent resin containing no dichroic material and which has birefringence (▵n) being ≥0.03. The polarizing fiber (1) and the birefringent fiber (2) are arranged so that their longitudinal directions are almost parallel to each other. Further the polarizing fiber (1) and the birefringent fiber (2) are embedded in a transparent isotropic material (3) without gaps and are formed into a sheet-shape.
