<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a pyridone azo-compound excellent in heat resistance, light fastness and solubility to water and an organic solvent. <P>SOLUTION: This pyridone azo-compound is represented by formula (I), wherein R<SP>1</SP>, R<SP>3</SP>and R<SP>4</SP>represent each a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group, an alkenyl group, an aryl group, an aralkyl group and a substituent having a hetero atom, wherein at least one of R<SP>1</SP>, R<SP>3</SP>and R<SP>4</SP>is the substituent having the hetero atom, R<SP>3</SP>and R<SP>4</SP>may form a heterocyclic group along with a nitrogen atom linked thereto, and R<SP>2</SP>is an alkyl group, a methoxymethyl group or a trifluoromethyl group.
