There is provided a technique for appropriately handling structured data. A VC unit performs processing by correlating an element contained in a document to a destination tree by a template described in a definition file. When an element not described in the template of the definition file exists in a document, the VC unit requests a main control unit to transfer processing of the element to another processing system. The main control unit selects a processing system capable of processing the element and transfers the processing to it. Alternatively, when an element not described in the definition file template exists in a document, another definition file capable of processing the element is read in and incorporated in the definition file.
