There is provided a technique for appropriately handling a definition file conversion. When a document processing device (100) opens an XML document and if a definition file is correlated to the document, the document processing device (100) processes the XML document by using the definition file. Before opening the XML document, the document processing device (100) compares the version of the definition file used for creating the document to the version of the definition file acquired this time. When they are different, it is reported tot he user. Here, the document may be converted so as to be correlated to the definition file acquired this time.
