An optical disk device in which a swing arm can be easily positioned relative to a tray. A tray lifting mechanism (40) moves trays (20) vertically to position a tray (20), in which a desired optical disk (12) is received, at the height of a tip (35a) of a wedge-like member (35), which is a tray wedging member of a swing arm (30), and then the swing arm (30) is swung to push the wedge-like member (35) between trays (20). The wedge-like member (35) is advanced into between the trays (20) to separate them, and the swing arm (30) is positioned at a recording/reproduction position. At this time, when necessary, the swing arm (30) is advanced into between the trays (20) while being lifted by a vertical movement mechanism (34). By this, only positioning trays (20) in the vertical direction causes the swing arm (30) to be positioned between desired trays (20). As a result, the swing arm (30) can be vertically positioned easily and without interference with trays (20).
