<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a brushless DC motor drive capable of performing optimal lead angle control. <P>SOLUTION: An overcurrent detection circuit 30 detects the value of a load current flowing into an inverter circuit 16. A lead angle reference potential is outputted while being increased when the value of the load current detected by the overcurrent detection circuit 30 decreases, and outputted while being decreased when the value of the detected load current increases. A lead angle control circuit 32 generates a phase signal at the cross timing of the voltage between terminals of the stator winding 14 of each phase of a brushless DC motor 10 and the lead angle reference potential.
