The method involves detecting an electrical and/or mechanical state of a magnetostrictive actuator (1) by detecting a passage of a low or high current level across an inductive electrical part of the actuator. Waveform of power supply is modified according to the detection of the actuator state. The detection and the modification steps are repeated during maintenance of work position of a movable mechanical part of the actuator. An independent claim is also included for a magnetostrictive actuator controlling device for implementing a magnetostrictive actuator controlling method.
