A polyester-based moulding composition is made by blending (a) a linear, saturated polyester of an aromatic dicarboxylic acid and a saturated aliphatic or cycloaliphatic diol and (b) 0.1% to 10% by weight of the total mixture, of poly-3-methyl butene-1 of molecular wt. above 5000 and of which at least 80% of the particles are 10Á or less in size. The preferred polyesters are polyethylene terephthalate or polycyclohexane - 1,4 - dimethylol terephthalate, and the former containing also units of naphthalene-2,6-dicarboxylic acid, adipic acid, neopentyl glycol or butane-1,4-diol. Blending methods specified are (1) stirring the finely divided poly-3-methylbutene-1 with the molten polyester, or (2) mixing the granulated components, melting in an extruder, extruding whilst cooling, and then granulating the resulting solid. The composition may also contain nucleating agents such as finely divided calcium carbonate, aluminium silicate or talc.</p> |
