Insulated pipe component, particularly a metal pipe component, hasa continuous plastic foam insulation layer with exterior cladding impermeable to gas and water. Specif. this cladding is a thermoplastic ribbon wound around the tube with the overlapping parts welded together. Specif. the ribbon is of polyethylene, or of a hardened fibre reinforced thermosetting resin.
