The method for renovating or optimizing a district heating system with at least one open distribution section (1) involves introduction of a smaller medium pipe (3) into this section, and sealing of the pipe so that the air volume surrounding it is virtually closed. An independent claim is also included for an apparatus for implementation of the proposed method.
